The Residency Program at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) is designed to train and develop the next generation of highly skilled medical specialists.

Residency Program Structure

1. Entry Requirements

To qualify for the OOUTH Residency Program, applicants must:

  • Hold an MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
  • Have completed the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or possess an exemption certificate.
  • Possess a current practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Have passed the primary examination of the relevant postgraduate medical college (NPMCN or WACP/WACS).

2. Duration of Training

  • The residency program spans between 4 to 6 years, depending on the specialty.
  • The training is divided into Junior Residency (Part 1) and Senior Residency (Part 2) leading to fellowship certification.

3. Training Approach

  • Clinical Rotations: Hands-on patient management under consultant supervision.
  • Didactic Lectures & Seminars: Regular academic sessions to deepen theoretical knowledge.
  • Research & Publications: Encouraging residents to engage in innovative medical research.
  • Workshops & Conferences: Exposure to national and international medical advancements.
  • Mentorship & Supervision: Guidance from experienced specialists in various fields.
